I started making windsor chairs and stools several years ago and, like many of you, I had a difficult time finding travishers. Out of my normal impatience, I built my first travisher and fell in love with the process. I offer them in a standard 4-1/2″ radius, a 12″ radius, and also a 3″ radius. The 4-1/2″ is the best all around standard size for windsor seats, and the 12″ is wonderful for refining the transitions and forward leg areas. I also have started offering a 3″ radius that’s useful for the tighter radius of the child’s size windsor saddles. If your only going to have one it’s the 4-1/2″ radius. A nicely sharpened curved scrapper can assist with the forward leg areas and general seat refining. Solid walnut or cherry travishers are available for $250. I also try to keep some figured maple on hand and those are $275 each. Occasionally I’ll sneak in a few travishers using exotic woods. Shipping in the continental US is $15 and I combine shipping for multiple travishers. My cost for boxing and shipping is the same regardless if I’m shipping 1 or 3 travishers so, I can pass that savings on to you. Orders can also be shipped internationally and I can quote a actual shipping cost prior to your order. If you’re interested please contact me, and I will gladly schedule one in your requested wood and radius in my build list.
